Non-Conductive Wedding Rings

Posted by Michael Gudmundson on

Wedding bands are an important aspect to a marriage. The wedding ring represents the special bond and love between two people. A man's wedding band is used to show his personality, commitment and love for his bride. However, for some professions, like engineers, mechanics and electricians, wearing a traditional metal band can be risky and downright dangerous.

Wedding rings made from metals like copper, gold, zinc tungsten, stainless steel and even carbon fiber are conductive and dangerous to wear while working with electrical currents. Honestly finding a metal wedding ring that is 100% non-conductive is basically impossible.  If you or your Fiancé is in a profession that deals with electrical currents and live wires, we do not recommend the following types of wedding rings.

The above materials are known to be non-conductive but it is always important to ask the seller or manufacturer if their ring options are non-conductive. Even though the ring may be classified as wood, bone or glass fiber the design may contain conductive materials that you are not aware of. For example, one common mistake people make is that they assume carbon fiber is non-conductive. Carbon fiber rings are conductive. Which one is right for you? Let's go into a little more detail and help you find a material that shows off who you are?

Silicone Wedding Bands

Silicone wedding bands are a great option for a non-conductive wedding band. They are made from silicone rubber and are very durable, comfortable, relatively inexpensive and generally hypoallergenic. They can handle exposure to the elements and extreme pressure while maintaining their form. This is a great ring for almost any profession.

Wooden Wedding Bands

Though Silicone rings are a great option most of the time we tend to want to spend more on a mans wedding band. Wood rings are a great alternative to the normal metal wedding rings we listed above. They are unique, comfortable and of course non-conductive. They are highly durable when taken care of and can take on an extra layer of meaning based on the wood you choose.  For example, a walnut based ring can represent clarity and focus.  Wood rings are great for most conditions and are generally waterproof. If you are wanting a unique wedding ring that is durable, non-conductive and stylish a wood ring may be just right for you or your fiancé.

Glass Fiber Wedding Bands

We wanted to give our fellow engineers another option. We developed a unique ring made from Fiber glass. As a non-conductive material this is a perfect ring for an electrician or engineer.  They are woven with fiber glass rather than carbon fiber making these rings just as lightweight and durable as your carbon fiber options.  Their coloring also gives you the look of a silver wedding ring without the conductivity. This is a great option for a linesman, electrician or an engineer.
